The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Metro naming rights project made their mark worldwide in 2008 with the kick start of a new marketing concept that assisted the Emirate in creating a new income stream to broaden and improve services, whilst giving companies a totally new channel for branding, sampling and customer interaction.

The Dubai Metro team of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) was honoured yesterday by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in recognition of their outstanding efforts to complete the largest transportation project in the region.

“We moved from five to seven zones, and the fare has largely gone down particularly for monthly Nol card subscribers and people living near labour camp areas on the side of Al Qusais. It remained unchanged for some and rose a little bit for a few.”

The Rail Agency of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that about 106,000 passengers have used the Green Line on the first two days since the opening day. Passengers travelled between 16 stations representing a full and substantial integration with the Red Line in serving the largest possible chunk of public transport commuters in Dubai Emirate.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, reaffirmed RTA’s commitment to carry out its plan to emiratise jobs in Dubai Metro. Al Tayer said that emiratisation, and training national cadres to develop their talents and abilities tops the RTA’s priorities, and is in line with achieving its goals and objectives.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), revealed that the projects and improvements carried out by the RTA, comprising roads, bridges & tunnels as well as mass transit network including Dubai Metro, public buses & marine transit modes, contributed to reducing the cost of time wasted annually due to traffic congestions from 4.9 billion dirham in 2005 to 2.4 billion dirham in 2010.

A 1·5 km extension of Istanbul metro line M2 from Darüssafaka to Haciosman opened on May 23, taking the line length to 18 km. The southern extension of M2 from Sishane to Yenikapi over the new Golden Horn Bridge is expected to open in 2014.
