Since the introduction of the School Transport Law in the Emirate of Dubai in 2008, the RTA has been paying growing attention to this vital sector with a view to adopting the highest international practices, and has therefore been keen on publishing at varying interval the School Transport Manual in the Emirate of Dubai.

The first day of school was met with frustration as traffic was at a standstill on major roads in Dubai. Many commuters were stuck in traffic for more than an hour, with many taking to social media to vent their frustrations.

Minibuses and vans will continue to be used for school runs in Dubai despite concerns raised by the police recently about their safety, a senior RTA official has said.

The second day of the 1st International School Transport Conference & Exhibition at the Dubai World Trade Center, saw interactive panels including a work paper entitled: Engineering Road Safety for Schools, delivered by Adrian Tan Hock Chuan, Deputy Director, Community Partnership of Singapore’s Land Transport Authority.

Professional drivers seeking a new or renewal of their licence will have to submit a health certificate showing they are free of serious diseases as part of new rules to be issued by Dubai soon, according to local authorities.

“Only four run-over accidents were recorded in the first half of this year in which four children sustained minor to moderate injuries,” said the CEO of Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Traffic and Roads Agency, Eng. Maitha Bin Udai. She said if the drivers “play their part with utmost caution, they can help a long way in averting traffic accidents.”
