irport Road in Dubai will get a massive facelift over the next three years, with additional lanes, underpasses and bridges easing traffic, Gulf News has learnt.

The Trade Centre Bridges Project, the largest part of the Parallel Raods Project, will open to traffic in mid-November, providing free access to traffic from several directions. This was announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.

Almost half of the Trade Centre Bridges Project has been completed and is on track for the November 2013 completion target date, a senior Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) official announced yesterday. The Project comprises the construction of 22 precast concrete bridges, as well as another 120 metre-long concrete bridge added to serve traffic outbound to Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge and parallel roads.

Motorists in Dubai have once again found themselves caught in traffic jams during peak hours, despite massive road infrastructure development projects and the introduction of a mass transit system, which includes Dubai Metro. Though the number of vehicles plying on Dubai roads has increased to some 1.4 million, 1.1 million of which are registered in Dubai as opposed to other emirates, the latest traffic congestion on certain main roads has been attributed to delays in road work projects.
