Ras Al Khaimah – The RAK department of public works and services has blocked the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road at Exit No 122.

A floating giant rubber duck was launched at Jetty 2 of the Dubai Creek along Al Seef Road on Sunday to create awareness on the importance of water conservation and to celebrate the UAE National Day and Dubai Expo 2020 win.

A steep increase in traffic on alternative routes between Dubai and Sharjah since the introduction of two new Salik gates on Al Ittihad Road and Airport Tunnel has left residents in Al Ghusais, Al Nahda, Al Twar and Oud Al Muteena fuming.

The initial phase of the plan includes street naming in six areas: Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, Umm Suqeim 3, Al Sufouh 1, Al Sufouh 2, and Dubai Marina, and is set to be completed before the end of this year. The 2nd phase comprises naming streets in 6 new areas, namely: Al Nahda , Muhaisna, Oud Mateena, Nad Al Sheba, Al Thaniyah, and Dubai Investments Park, and the phase is set to finish by the end of 2013.

It is often said it takes a certain type of person to live as an expatriate in the Middle East and, for all the benefits on offer, relocating there can have its challenges. Some arrive dazzled by the glittering skyscrapers and luxury hotels and lured by financial rewards greater than they could earn at home.

'We need maps," is how one Sharjah resident summed up her emirate's transport problems in an online post. "Frequency of buses must be increased," were the thoughts of another. And this: "The only thing stopping people from using public transport is the lack of it."

Transport officials have announced that a new bus route will launch on Tuesday. The route will cover Sharjah Airport to the Dubai Metro station in Al Rashidiya. The fare costs Dh10 and the new service, Route 111, will start at Sharjah International Airport and then make a stop at Al Qusais Bus station (Sonapur), before reaching its final destination at the Al Rashidiya Metro Station.
