Al Wasl Road: With the Dubai Canal project underway, Al Wasl Road will be elevated to become a bridge over the canal between Safa Park and Umm Amar Road.

Salik charges continue to drive UAE commuters around the bend, with the road toll‎ emerging as one of the top topics raised by residents in an online, freewheeling chat with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai.

The Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, has endorsed the award of a Dh250 million contract for constructing roads and bridges at the Dubai Parks & Resorts project in cooperation with Meraas Holding.

The bridges that will soon raise some of Dubai’s most prominent roads to allow Dubai Canal to make its way to the Arabian Sea are beginning to take shape.

Multiple crashes have been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road on Wednesday morning, causing congestion for commuters heading towards Abu Dhabi, along with those northbound towards Sharjah.

The emirate can now lay claim to yet another Guinness World Record after becoming the home of the world’s largest vertical maze.

Roads in Dubai are constantly subject to change. These developments are in response to a fast-growing emirate with an increasing number of vehicles on the road.

The Dubai Tram, connecting Dubai Marina to Burj-Al-Arab is due to open late 2014. Dubai is the first city in the Middle East to own this type of public transport.

“Engineer Maitha bint Udai, Executive Director of the Traffic & Roads Agency at the RTA, said: “This phase of the project comprised carrying out new improvement works in a sector of the Road that extends 6 km starting from the Interchange of the Jebel Ali – Lehbab Road with the Dubai – Al Ain Road, widening the road from two to four lanes in both directions along with pavements in the direction of Hatta R/A, in addition to ground marking, traffic signals, lighting, safety means, rain water drainage and sewage works.”
