There was a time not so long ago when the Metro was seen as an exercise in mild futility. The general if uninformed public consensus was that Dubai was a car-centric town and that no executive would deign to take a train to work and that these blue streaks would go empty.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Executive Council, has issued a Decision appointing Yousef Ahmed Jawad as Chief Executive Officer of the Corporate Administrative Services Sector, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai.
Public transport ridership clocked 332m passengers in 2010
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has revealed that RTA mass transit means, comprising the Dubai Metro, public buses, marine transit modes and taxis, have lifted more than 332 million passengers in 2010, compared to 288.777 million passengers in 2009. The average number of daily riders in 2010 was about 957 thousand persons compared to 800 thousand persons in 2009.

Dubai plans $2.86bn transport spending spree
Dubai could spend about $3bn in transport infrastructure projects in 2010 as it looks to stimulate the economy and has no issue paying its contractors, the chairman of the transport department said.
