Khalid Bin Walid has emerged as the busiest Metro station in Dubai with more than 19,000 passengers using the station every day, a top official has told XPRESS. Ramadan Abdullah, Director, Rail Operations, Dubai Metro, said an average of 19,097 passengers take the Metro to or from the Khalid Bin Walid station in Bur Dubai every day, followed by Union Square station with 18,113 passengers and Deira City Centre with 15,607 passengers.

Shopping malls near Dubai's new Green Line have already enjoyed an increase in visitors as more customers opt to take the Metro over their cars. The two malls will compete with a huge amount of retail in the Metro system after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced last month that 200 retail units were available to rent in various stations.

Buying a ticket on the Dubai Metro is fast and easy. The best bargain of all is a silver Nol smart-card. This costs Dhs20 (RM16.85) and includes Dhs14 of stored value. The card is used to touch on and off at each Metro station or on linked feeder buses or water buses, and can be topped up at ticket-vending machines in all Metro stations and at 64 bus stops throughout Dubai.

Free public transport day in Dubai received a positive response from the public, with many people leaving their cars at home to ride the metro, public buses and water buses. The free transport day is being celebrated on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
