British star Lewis Hamilton has come to Abu Dhabi hoping to emulate his success of 2011, when he took the chequered flag at the Yas Marina.
Before getting down to the serious business of racing he made a trip to Dubai, one of his favourite holiday destinations.
Presented to fans at Dubai Mall by sponsors Blackberry, Hamilton entertained a legion of supporters talking about his career highs and lows, preparations for next year, and spending time away from his beloved dogs.
So you’re here in Dubai again – you have come here before every Abu Dhabi race so far haven’t you?
Yeah, it’s a superb place, I had a holiday here back in 2006 and ever since then I’ve been coming back. I come before the race to relax. It’s a great place for shopping, food and people are very welcoming.
Have you been able to get out and relax since you arrived?
Today was a fun work day. I went out to the desert and did some dune buggying with a few of the drivers, that was good fun.
How competitive does it get on the dune buggies?
It’s competitive but not very. I’m either very competitive or not at all. Sometimes I like to just chill and do my thing. There’s nothing like the dunes. I had never been out there before but I had seen it on the television. More info
