Theyab bin Mohammed reviews key projects, initiatives of RTA’s roads and mass transit systems

‏His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan، Chairman of the Department of Transport and Member of the Executive Council in Abu Dhabi, has reviewed the projects and initiatives currently undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to improve the infrastructure of roads network and mass transit systems in Dubai.

Upon arrival at the premises of RTA, H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, and a host of RTA leaders received His Highness. Sheikh Theyab was accompanied by HE Falah Mohammed Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, and HE Khalifa Mohammed Al Mazroui, Undersecretary of the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi.

‏At the start of the visit, His Highness was briefed on the achievements of RTA since its inception in November 2005 as well as its business processes and organizational chart modelled after the world’s best practices of boosting governance through separating legislation and monitoring from implementation and operation. His Highness also reviewed RTA’s Strategic Plan 2017-2021 and the key enablers of realising RTA’s vision and strategic objectives.

‏HH Sheikh Theyab was briefed on methodologies، techniques adopted by RTA in the construction of Dubai Metro project and the key success factors of the project. His Highness was also familiarized with the array of road and mass transport projects undertaken by RTA to serve the needs of hosting Expo 2020 in Dubai highlighted by Route 2020 project. The project involves the extension of the metro line 15 km in a route comprising seven stations and is set for operation in May 2020.

‏Control Center
‏His Highness accompanied by Mattar Al Tayer, then visited the Enterprise Command and Control Center (EC3) that monitors and controls roads and transit systems in Dubai. It is considered one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated control centres in terms of smart technologies used, combined control & coordination between all RTA’s public transit systems, and the proper planning of mobility to address various challenges in the Emirate.

The Center plays a key role in organizing mobility during key exhibitions and events held in Dubai, especially the forthcoming Expo 2020.

‏His Highness was acquainted with the taxi services in Dubai including ‘Hala Taxi,’ Ladies Taxi, and Awnak service dedicated to serving people of determination and non-critical patients. The briefing also covered Tesla electric vehicles and the smart rental service provided by U-drive and Ekar.

‏Metro Tour
‏During a site tour، HH Sheikh Theyab examined the integration of public transit systems in Dubai by inspecting the operation of the metro link buses and the environment-friendly electric bus at the First Abu Dhabi Bank Metro Station. His Highness and Al Tayer then boarded the Dubai Metro to have further exposure about this transit mode, which had lifted more than one billion riders since opened on 09/09/09.

At Damac Station, His Highness moved on to Dubai Tram Station via the air-conditioned footbridge linking the Metro and Tram stations. His Highness  boarded the Tram from Dubai Marina Station to Marina Towers Station and had an elaborate briefing about the components of this service, which spans 11 km. the

Dubai Tram is considered the first tram outside Europe powered by ground electric cables extending along the tramway. More info
