Locations for two more Salik toll gates have been identified to ease traffic congestion on Dubai roads, Gulf News has learnt.

Salik gatesA comprehensive study on roads and traffic impact in Dubai has suggested installation of two more Salik toll gates, one on Al Ittihad road near Dubai Police headquarters and the second one in Al Ghusais.

“There is no plan to install Salik on Emirates Road as only two new locations have been identified,” said a senior official. However, he made it clear that so far no final decision has been taken to install the Salik toll gates as the decision will be taken only after approval from the higher authorities.

Dubai was the first city in the region to introduce the ‘Salik’ road toll system in July 2007 to ensure smooth traffic flow on congested roads. Initially, two toll gates were installed, one each on Shaikh Zayed Road near the Mall of the Emirates (Al Barsha) and Shaikh Rashid Road in Al Garhoud. The RTA installed two more Salik gates, one each on Al Maktoum Bridge and on Shaikh Zayed Road between the First and Second Interchanges, in 2008.
