These efforts come in implementation of RTA strategic objective of minimizing the use of private vehicles and maximizing the use of public transit means (including taxis) from 13% in 2006 to 30% in 2030. In 2010 this rate reached 15% and in the middle of last year it jumped to 19%,” said Al Tayer.

The number of commuters who used the Red Line reached 60.024 million passengers, and the number of commuters who used the Green Line, which has been launched on 09/09/2011, reached 8.982 million passengers, thus the daily ridership of the metro currently exceeds 191 thousand passengers. The total ridership of public buses in 2011 reached 107.407 million passengers making an average of about 298 thousand passengers per day.
