Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the launch of their classic vehicles licencing service today. The RTA announced the eligibility criteria and the pricing for those interested in registering a classic vehicle in Dubai. Any vehicle that is over 30 years old can be registered as a classic provided it meets all the technical requirements.
The RTA Â will issue these number plates in collaboration with Automobile Touring Club (ATC)Â to those vehicles that pass all the stringent requirements laid down by the authorities.
Vehicles will be classified into five categories. Category A vehicles will be allowed to travel on all roads provided it doesn’t exceed a total mileage of 10,000 kilometres per year. Category B vehicles will be allowed to travel on all roads provided the vehicle doesn’t exceed a total mileage of 5,000 kilometres a year. Category C vehicles will not be allowed to travel on highways.
Category D vehicles will be allowed on the roads only during daytime. Category E vehicles will be allowed to drive on internal and service roads only and category F vehicles will be designated for display purposes only and will not be road legal.
These classifications will be based on global standards and assessment mechanisms. Registration process will be similar to that of a regular vehicle but the vehicle assessment will have to be carried out by the ATC. More info
