Dubai: With more than 3,000 CCTV cameras, a dedicated round the clock police force and a set of heavy penalties, the Dubai Metro is one of the safest in the world.
Fines range from Dh100 to Dh2,000, depending on the nature of the violation, with using emergency buttons and exits attracting the highest penalties.
Breaching prohibited areas at the stations and climbing on the public transport premises attracts a fine of Dh100, while damaging, vandalising and tampering with any devices at the station or on the metro attracts a fine of Dh500.
Even in terms of safety and protective system on trains and in stations the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has ensured that no commuter has any access to train tracks or to any places which compromises the safety of the passengers. Though over the last three years, the metro has large been free of incidents, the death of an Asian man on the metro tracks on Monday raises questions of safety. More info
