The Facilities & Installations Department, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently met in RTA Head Office with a host of local entrepreneurs to explore managing & investing a number of land plots that have been allocated as lay-bys for heavy trucks in the Emirate of Dubai on the basis of Build, Operate & Transfer (BOT).

Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said: “During the initial phase of the project, the RTA is focusing on the construction of two lay-bys for trucks on highways in a passageway mainly designated for trucks at all times. The first plot is located alongside the Dubai Industrial City on the Dubai Bypass Rd; which will contribute to easing the severity of traffic congestions caused by heavy trucks when parked in a disorderly manner within the right-of-way of Dubai roads.

It will also enhance the civilized appearance of the Emirate’s roads to bring them in line with the urban development of the city, boost the traffic safety through curbing accidents triggered by exhaustion & fatigue generated by long driving hours, or sudden tire defection that requires a lay-by to sort out the problem; which will be addressed by the project given the excellent services to be offered at world-class standards.

“The Project, continued Al Madani, “stems out of our endeavours to realize RTA vision of Safe & Smooth Transport for All, along with its strategic goals highlighted by “Customers First” through adopting initiatives & undertaking new projects capable of contributing significantly to meeting customer needs and attaining their satisfaction. These rendezvous therefore facilitate the exchanging of ideas as regards the overall project concept & how to implement it, besides thrashing out valuable suggestions & feedbacks for the development of the project and turning it into a reality. This is particularly relevant as the lay-by facilities will offer a diverse cast of essential, useful and enjoyable services to truck drivers,” added Al Madani.

Abdulla Yousef Al Ali, Director of Facilities & Installations, RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, made a visual presentation about the project and commented: “The RTA stands ready to provide all facilities, logistical support and technical data in this regard. Among the key services to be provided at these lay-bys are: snacks selling outlets, petrol refilling stations, parking lots, oil & battery change, and trucks washing in addition to other key services to be added in the second phase of the project.
