DUBAI — “Mabrouk!” greet supporters of the Ruler of Dubai, giving him a thumbs up on Facebook for the launch of the Metro later this week.
Sharing the jubilation on social networking sites, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, says he is “very excited about the launch of the Dubai Metro on 09.09.09.”
He calls it a historic milestone that reflects what Dubai is capable of achieving. Over 3000 followers virtually agree and wish him well for an achievement that will revolutionise public transport in the city.
“Congratulations! Can’t tell you how thrilled I am whenever I watch the metro moving now and then in test trials,” writes Lady Wisam.
On September 9, the Red Line of the Metro will be unveiled, with driverless trains shuttling thousands daily between 10 stations. Commuters hope this will ease the traffic congestion and provide a seamless connection with the various parts of the emirate.
“Dubai looks so beautiful now and its so convenient commuting,” writes Welma Williams.
Siri Shaikhno says he is waiting to be a part of this historic event. “I am looking forward to ride in the Metro along with my family. Congratulations,” he writes.
The metro is going to be a “sure” success, according to Margaret Smith, who congratulates the Ruler on the achievement. “Its such joy to see the trains going back and forth… everything is possible under your leadership.”
UAE national Ruwaida Ahmed Safa, who does not reside in Dubai, says this is a remarkable step and one that exceeds expectations. “Inshallah, I am planning to settle again in Dubai, and I can’t wait to be taking the Dubai Metro.”
