Al Sufouh St speed limit cut for $1bn Dubai Tram

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a reduction of the speed limit along Al Sufouh Street as the $1bn Dubai Tram projects moves into its final stages.

The speed limit has been lowered from 80 to 60km/h to ensure the flow, safety and integration of traffic while working it taking place.

Dubai Tram is set to go into operation in November.

The tram is expected to be used by about 27,000 riders per day, and the number is anticipated to hit 66,000 riders per day by 2020. It will run over a 14.6 km-long track along Al Safouh Road. The initial stage covers the construction of 10.6km-long track starting from the Marina up to the tram depot near the Dubai Police Academy.

The entire network includes 17 passenger stations, 11 of which will be constructed during the initial phase. Under this phase 14 trams will be in operation but this will rise to 25 trams in phase two.

The phase one tram links up with the Dubai metro at Dubai Marina Station and Jumeirah Lakes Towers Station via footbridges. More info DM News
