DUBAI // It was a commute to remember this morning as residents boarded the emirate’s newest mode of public transport.
“We wanted to be on the first tram, it is exciting,” said Abu Rashid, an Emirati father who waited at the Jumeirah Beach Residence station with his son and daughter.
“As an Emirati, it is a proud moment for me. Also, it will be convenient for my travelling needs,” he said.
Mr Rashid, who has an investment and trading business, said he would now use the tram, instead of a car or taxi, to travel from Jumeirah Lakes Towers metro station to his office in the World Trade Centre.
His daughter Shahd, 14, said although she may have been late for school this morning, the experience would be worth it.
“It’s okay, I think my teacher will understand,” she said.
“We thought it would be a normal day but then my dad woke us up early and said: ‘Let’s ride the first tram.’”
Posing for pictures and recording their journey on video, commuters boarded at several stations along the tram’s 10.6 kilometre route. More info
