The Roads and Transport Authority RTA has briefed a delegation from the Republic of Pakistan about its rail operation experience and the best practices adopted in this aspect in terms of technology, control and maintenance processes undertaken by the RTA in Rashidiya Depot of the Dubai Metro.
Mohammed Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operation, RTA Rail Agency, said: “The RTA is always keen on sharing expertise with countries of interest in this field, particularly as the Emirate of Dubai has a pioneering experience in operating a host of mass transit systems highlighted by the Dubai Metro project which is billed as the world’s longest driverless metro line, and the Dubai Tram which is considered the first tram network outside Europe powered by ground electric cables stretching all over the track.
“The delegation visited the Operations Control Center at Rashidiya Depot where they were briefed about the tasks of attending staffs in coping with emergency situations such as responding to early warning systems, managing various issues related to security, communication and faults, running metro operation control systems, and monitoring the electric network and power supply systems of the metro.
The delegation also reviewed the process of monitoring the movement as well as the safe operation of the rolling stock, how alternative options are provided in the event of emergency situations and digital cameras deployed all through the metro lines amounting to 4958 cameras operated in conjunction with the Transport Security Management at the Dubai Police through a CCTV room supervised by a specialist security officer,” added Al Mudharreb.
The Pakistani delegation was also familiarized with the functions of the Maintenance Department covering two types of workshops; the first is dedicated to light faults as well as periodic & regular maintenance, and the second is designated for long time repairs. The delegation attended to a briefing about the advanced systems used in maintenance, daily & monthly cleaning processes of the metro coaches, and performance results of the metro including the number of trips and riders in addition to the time and effort saved for the metro users.
The delegation commended the world-class systems used in monitoring, operating and maintaining the rail system and the role of the RTA in offering them exposure to the best practices adopted which they said would contribute to sharing expertise and knowledge that would empower staffs to accomplish projects in a smooth manner.
