The Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Chaired by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, has endorsed the award of an AED60 million contract for constructing internal roads at Oud Al Mateena 2.
This project is part of the 5 Year Plan (2012 – 2016), which had been endorsed by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for paving internal roads in a number of residential districts in Dubai Emirate, costing about one AED1 billion.
“The construction of internal roads project at Oud Al Mateena 2 stems from the keenness of RTA to improve the infrastructure of the area such as road works, street lighting, and rainwater drainage systems at residential neighborhood. The underlying objective of the plan is to meet the needs of demographic growth and urban expansion, and accordingly bring happiness to residents of the Emirate.
Works have recently started in the new project that comprises the construction of an 18-km long road at a width of 7 meters, roadside parking slots at width of 2.5 meters in a sector extending 8 km on both sides of the road, street lighting works, and storm-water drainage system. The project is set for completion within 10 months.
Last June, RTA awarded contracts for constructing internal roads at Al Barsha South 2 (District 671) extending 16 km, rainwater drainage network, upgrading electricity & water network, installing LED street lights, and constructing public parking at schools and mosques.
Over the past years, RTA had constructed internal roads in 13 residential areas costing about AED552 million. Works are up-and-running in constructing internal roads at five residential areas costing about AED319 million.
In the near future, RTA will release a tender for constructing internal roads at Al Khawaneej 2 and Nad El Sheba 4. In 2016, RTA will undertake road construction works at five residential districts namely: Al Aweer 1, and Jebel Ali Industrial Area, in addition to Al Qusais Industrial Area 3, 4 and 5. More info
