Dubai: Dubai Police recorded a total of 250 accidents on the first day of Ramadan on Monday, an official said on Tuesday.

2aLt Col Khazraj Al Khazraji, deputy director of the Command and Control Room at Dubai Police’s Operations Department, said that out of the 250 accidents, two were serious and the rest were minor.

The Dubai Police operations room received 2,419 calls between 7.30am and 2.30pm on Monday.

“Speeding and reckless driving by some drivers just before iftar and not leaving a safe distance between vehicles were some of the reasons behind the accidents. Not abiding by lane discipline and lack of attention while driving increased the number and severity of traffic accidents,” he said.

He urged motorists to be careful when they are driving and ensure their path is empty before proceeding, especially in residential areas and areas where it is common for pedestrians to cross. More info
