Dubai:  A Dutch technology company will deliver a driverless automated vehicle system to Dubai that will link an upcoming lifestyle destination off the coast of Dubai with the city’s metro.
The transport system, which is said to be the largest of its kind in the world, will transport 5,000 passengers every hour between Bluewaters Island and Dubai Metro.
A developer of sustainable mobility solutions, 2getthere announced on Wednesday the awarding of the contract.
Carel van Helsdingen, CEO of 2getthere, said the automated vehicles will appeal to Dubai’s commuters and encourage the public to visit Bluewaters.
The proposed transport system also complements Dubai’s goal to have 25 per cent of all trips completed by automated systems by 2035.
Bluewaters Island is a waterfront project located just off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), across The Beach and near Dubai Marina. More info
