Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, stressed the vital role played by the supporting industries in the huge accomplishments by Dubai’s aviation sector during past years.

Those industries have formed a comprehensive array that has contributed effectively in all accomplishments made within Dubai’s strategy to be a role model in developing economic sectors.

The statement came during the visit His Highness made to Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC), one of the world’s biggest flight catering facilities, where he was briefed on the ongoing processes in the company that serves over 120 airlines, including Emirates Airlines. His Highness also toured the key operational areas and facilities the company runs.

His Highness also toured the Central Commissary Unit (CCU) and Skybake, inaugurated last year to meet the local and international demand within flight catering industry. CCU handles 15 tons of vegetables, 9 tons of fruit and 30 tons of meat on a daily basis, in addition to the recently introduced new products lines of ice cream and pasta. Skybake uses 3,300 tons of flour per year to produce 97 variations of product and distributes 450,000 items.

The tour continued through the main production areas, where His Highness Sheikh Mohammed saw the automated overhead cart transport system (monorail) which carries over 29,142 meal carts through 2.55 kms of monorail line. The system also transports the carts and containers to the dishwashing area where over than 3 million cutlery/crockery are washed per day. His Highness also toured the specialty production areas where over 520 talented chefs work 24/7 to prepare 1,548 different menus per year.
