Beware: Don’t fall for this supermarket scam

Dubai: Who can resist unbelievable offers. But the main question is: should they be trusted?

In the latest scam making the rounds in the UAE, residents have been receiving messages from social networking sites that claimed to offer free vouchers of up to Dh200,000 from LuLu Hypermarket.

To address the growing concern from residents over the authenticity of the claims, LuLu Hypermarket took to social media to confirm that the offer is a scam.

In its pinned post on Facebook, LuLu Hypermarket, stated: “Dear fans, beware if you come across a website claiming to give you free vouchers or if you receive an SMS or call saying that you have won with LuLu as it is in no way associated with LuLu Hypermarket. Stay up-to-date with our latest news, promotions, and contests only through our official social media accounts. Thank you.”

This is not the first time that fraudsters have circulated fake news about the supermarket chain in the Gulf.

According to Qatar media reports published in February 2017, a website link promised gift vouchers worth 500 Qatari riyals (Dh504) if participants replied to a short survey of three questions.

On its website, LuLu Lulu Group also confirmed that the offer was a scam. More
