Nearly 278m people use Dubai public transport in H1, says RTA

Nearly 278 million people used public transport in Dubai during the first six months of 2018, up from 275 million in the year earlier period, it was revealed on Saturday.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the figure translates into a current daily average of 1.5 million riders on the city’s metro, tram, buses and marine transit as well as taxis.

Dubai Metro accounted for the biggest share of publictransport users (37.1 percent), followed by taxis (31.6 percent), and public buses (27.4 percent).

The Dubai Metro Red and Green Lines lifted 103.2 million riders during the first half of this year, almost 3 million more than a year ago. The Red Line accounted for 66.8 million and the Green Line served 36.43 million.

The Dubai Tram ridership clocked 3.2 million riders; almost the same number reported last year, the RTA said.

Interchange stations of the Dubai Metro lines received the largest number of riders with Burjuman Station and the Union Station the busiest.

During the first half of 2018, public buses served 76.3 million riders, while marine transport means ferried 7.1 million and 87.8 million riders used the Dubai Taxi service. More
