H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), received in his office Mr. Kris Panday, the Consul General of Canada in Dubai. The visit comes in the context of efforts made by the RTA to build cooperative relations at the local, regional and international level.
The meeting discussed means of boosting cooperation between the RTA and its Canadian counterpart and cooperation with the Canadian companies engaged in roads & transport systems in Dubai.
Al Tayer briefed the Canadian Consul General on the key projects currently undertaken by the RTA such as improving roads network and constructing new crossings across Dubai Creek; where the number of crossings has jumped from 19 lanes at the time of establishing the RTA to 45 lanes in 2008. He also reviewed Dubai Metro project extending 75 km in the Red and Green Lines, Safouh Tram, and marine transport projects which include the water bus, water taxi and ferry Dubai, in addition to the efforts made to upgrade the public transport bus fleet through buying more buses and building stations to serve passengers.
“The UAE in general and Dubai in particular is witnessing huge developments that led to an influx of peoples and business; which warrants preparing the infrastructure, such as road networks and transport modes (metro, marine transport means, buses, taxis, .. etc) to cater for the rising numbers in the number of population, projects and urbanization, and RTA stands committed to provide the required infrastructure to support development and growth”.
For his part the Canadian Consul General in Dubai praised Dubai Metro project, the fine design, top class finishing works and excellent service provided to customers. He commended the integrated mass transport systems such as buses, metro and marine modes and stressed that developing the infrastructure would contribute to the economic growth through attracting investments, enhancing trade exchange and increasing the number of tourists.
