It promises to be a sight to behold. India’s first privately funded metro, Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) will begin plying through the DLF city of Gurgaon from January 2013. It is said to be designed with world class aesthetics.
The RMG will begin its 6.1 km long route from Sikanderpur Metro Station, and then will move on to DLF City (II), touching Belvedere Park and Towers, DLF Cybercity, National Media Centre and Ambience Lagoon apartments. The project’s total budget is estimated to be around Rs. 1088 crore.
RMG incorporates the Automatic Train Operation (ATO) system, which means that human drivers won’t be necessarily required to drive it. Officials of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) company Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) claimed that RMG would be similar to Dubai Metro, whose design of the 47 stations are said to be one of the most appealing in the world. The Managing Director of RMGL, Sanjiv Rai said that the RMG stations will be designed in such a way, that they blend well with the swanky buildings of the surrounding areas. Rai also mentioned that in the coming days, RMGL would be signing lease agreements with the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and with DLF.
The union ministry of urban development however, is yet to give a go ahead to the project.
Maytas Infrastructure has been awarded the civil contract for the project. The company has promised to finish the stipulated work of erected elevated track within 2 years.
