Dubai: Construction work at most stations of the Dubai Metro Green Line has been completed and Al Ghusais park-and-ride facility should open on schedule in August next year, Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said on Saturday.
He announced the interior finishing work of the stations ranges from 10 to 100 per cent. The RTA chief said that 75 per cent of the work on Al Ghusais park-and ride-facility has been completed and the project is progressing on schedule towards the planned opening in August 2011.
Al Tayer made the statement during an inspection tour of the Green Line projects that took him to the Metro depot at Al Ghusais, Rail Operation Control Centre and the multi-storey car park, as well as etisalat, Al Ittihad, Al Ras and Al Ghubaiba stations.
During the tour, Al Tayer was accompanied by Adnan Al Hammadi, CEO of Rail Agency; Maitha Bin Udai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency; Board member Mohammad Obaid Al Mulla and Yousuf Jawad Al Reda, acting CEO of Corporate Administrative Support Services, and several directors and engineers supervising the project.
Inspection
Al Tayer started his tour by inspecting the Metro depot at Al Ghusais — a garage constructed for the maintenance and cleaning of the Metro carriages.
The facility comprises a parking area for train carriages and has a capacity to house 60 trains at a time. It includes the Rail Systems Operations Control Centre, which ensures the safety of doors, brakes and engines, as well as the air-conditioning systems and other sophisticated electronic sub-systems of each train separately.
The depot has workshops for carrying out maintenance works and dedicated workshops for washing and cleaning of carriages.
