The UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium H.E. Mohammed Salim Al Suwaidi hosted a dinner party in the honour of the delegation of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) taking part in the celebrations of the 125th Anniversary of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), headed by H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of the GCC countries to Belgium in addition to RTA Board Member Mohammed and Chairman of the Follow-up Team of Hosting the UITP Congress in Dubai 2011 Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, CEO of Dubai Taxi Corporation and 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Team Abdul Aziz Malik, Manager of Communication & International Relations, Office of the Chairman of the Board and Executive Director Rawdah Mohammed Khalifa Al Mahrazi, and Public Relations Manager Fahad Hadi.
Starting the event, Al Suwaidi welcomed RTA delegation and praised RTA efforts in carrying out a portfolio of roads and public transport projects, including the giant Dubai Metro Project, adding that such projects contributed to the provision of modern transportation systems to meet the requirements of the sweeping development witnessed by the UAE in general and Dubai in particular.
He congratulated RTA on winning the privilege of hosting the 59th UITP Congress & Exhibition, which is slated to be held in Dubai during 10-14 April 2011 following a tough competition with Singapore and Australia; which clearly illustrated the ability of Dubai to host successful international events & activities.
H.E. Mattar Al Tayer thanked the UAE Ambassador for the warm welcome and the cooperation received by RTA delegation during the visit.
Al Tayer briefed the attendants of the dinner party on the key projects delivered by the RTA, highlighted by the completion of Phase I of the Dubai Metro Project; which stretches 75 km in both the Red and Green Lines. He also reviewed other RTA highlights such as providing marine transport projects comprising the Water Bus and the Water Taxi, beefing-up public bus fleet, constructing stations to serve passengers, upgrading roads network, and constructing new crossings over the Dubai Creek.
