Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced changes to metro times following public pressure, according to a statement.
The metro will start at 1pm on Fridays – an hour earlier than the current 2pm start – until midnight and will run for an extra hour on Thursdays until midnight.
The new timings will come into place on October 15 to coincide with the opening of five new Red Line stations: Nakheel, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Sharaf DG, First Gulf Bank and Business Bay.
“These changes are intended to serve the interest of the public who are the backbone of any project we seek to achieve and through them we can upgrade our services to world-class standards” said Adnan Al Hamadi, CEO of the RTA’s Rail Agency.
According to the statement, the metro will run from 6am to 11pm Saturday to Wednesday, 6am to midnight Thursdays and 1pm to midnight Fridays.
Waiting times of trains at stations will also be cut from 30 seconds to 20 seconds to take account of the additional stations.
