RTA’s Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department (SRRPD) has recently participated in the Middle East Fire and Safety Conference (MEFSC) 2010.

Eur. Ing. Amair Saleem, Director of Safety, Risk, Regulation and Planning Department (SRRPD) of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, who has represented the RTA at this event, stated that the Authority is always keen on taking part in such conferences so as to keep pace with the latest in this domain and enhance its work performance in a way that goes with the international best practices in the safety, risk and crisis management.

“The RTA attaches a great significance to the safety in the services it delivers to different social cross-sections through its public transport modes including the metro, public buses, marines transport modes and taxicabs,” said Saleem.

“The Conference was attended by a number of leading government, semi-government and private organizations from the UAE and the region where scores of presentations on different safety topics were delivered and the attendees exchanged ideas through a platform of proactive discussions,” he added.

He also explained that the event focused on the codes and practices, along with the latest technologies available with case studies from the past, and dealt with a number of topics including the Codes and Practices, Design, Technological Advancement and Emergency Response Planning. “Fire safety, he said, is considered one of the key features and most important factors when discussing safety in a work environment and a considerable number of all workplace accidents could be prevented if organizations put in place proper safety control measures. The driving force for a strong corporate safety culture must come from the top and flow throughout the organization.”

Saleem reaffirmed RTA’s commitment to constantly participate in the conferences and exhibitions that deal with varied fields and can be beneficial to develop its safety, risk and crisis management practices.
