RTA Signs MoU with Dubai Airport Free Zone

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Airport Free Zone with regard to issuing permits to individuals and businesses interested in practicing transport-related activities.

The MoU allows for traffic files to be opened in respect of individuals sponsored by the Free Zone in order enabling them to obtain driving licenses, and register vehicles in the names of sponsored employees or companies licensed by the Free Zone. The move aims at boosting the integration & joint coordination, establishing uniform communication channels, and delivering best-in-class services which will ultimately serve the mutual interests of the two parties.

The MoU was signed by Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, Amnah Rashid Lootah, Executive Director of Finance, Leasing and Customer Operations, Dubai Airport Free Zone, in the presence of several officials from both bodies.

Speaking on the signing of the MoU, the CEO of RTA Licensing Agency Ahmed Bahrozyan stressed the importance of these agreements made with various Free Zones in Dubai in realizing RTA’s strategy of coordination and integration between the public & private departments at the top of which come the Free Zones which encompass plenty of companies engaged in a wide spectrum of service activities; which contribute to facilitating the delivery of services to investors and upgrading the quality of service rendered.

“Coordination will be made with the Dubai Airports Free Zone towards holding workshop for investors and businessmen in the Free Zone about the rules and policies governing permits of commercial transport activities, and raising the awareness of the use of public transport,” said Bahrozyan.

“According to the MoU, RTA will issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to investors who have booked a Business Name for setting up transport activities, and through the Licensing Agency, RTA will accept NOCs issued by the Free Zone to sponsored individuals or companies licensed under the Free Zone system to open traffic files for the sake of obtaining driving licenses or registering vehicles in their names, or renewing them in accordance with RTA procedures in place,” added Bahrozyan in a final remark.

For her part Amnah Rashid Lootah, Executive Director of Finance, Leasing and Customer Operations, Dubai Airport Free Zone, praised the MoU which serves the common interests of both parties in upgrading the level of services offered to customers, and offering external companies operating under the Free Zone system more assurance and security in practicing their business. “This fits well with our common objective of attracting investments and businesses to work under the Free Zone setup in coordination with the RTA,” she commented.

“According to the MoU, the Free Zone is entitled to issue commercial licenses to investors or companies once they are issued with NOCs from the RTA, and the Free Zone will also issue NOC to the sponsored individuals interested in opening traffic files with the RTA,” said Amnah Lootah in final remark.

Following the signing of the MoU, mementos were exchanged between the RTA and Dubai Airport Free Zone.
