“The Rail Agency of the RTA is all set to chalk out a comprehensive plan to close the existing gaps at the Metro stations and trains in a bid to improve the quality of services for special needs people,”

said Adnan Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of the Rail Agency.

He said the new initiatives was being launched in light of the study conducted by the Rail Planning and Development Department to assess the basic requirements of special needs people while using public transport.

The study, which involved some special needs volunteers, showed that the satisfaction rate for the facilities and services of the Metro is as high as 87 per cent.

The study, which was compiled by a work team of the Rail Agency in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs, aimed at checking the practical effectiveness of services provided by the RTA, and the possibility of improving the facilities in place on the trains and in stations.

Improvements

The study stressed the need to carry out some improvements focusing on providing more education and awareness to special needs people to help them use the Metro’s facilities independently.

The Metro’s facilities for people with special needs were put to the test a few months ago with the help of volunteers from all over the UAE.
