As governments across the MENA region continue to invest in infrastructure megaprojects designed to meet the requirements of their increasing populations, the Middle East’s tunneling industry is rapidly expanding. With the Dubai Metro, Sharjah Diftah to Shis highway and Al Salam Street Project all completed or nearing completion, it is clear that the UAE is leading the way in this growing industry.
The continued infrastructure investment has present increasing opportunities for the tunneling industry, but with some of the world’s most aggressive ground conditions, executing projects on time and to budget have proven to be an incredibly complex business. It is critical, therefore, for anyone keen to win future contracts to learn from the experience of the UAE in successfully completing the region’s key tunneling projects.
