Under the auspices of HH Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be holding a series of educative events about safe driving targeting motor-cyclists under the initiative launched by HH under the theme “Desert without Bloodshed”.

Engineer Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic and Roads Agency, praised the initiative of HH Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and renewed RTA’s keenness on making this initiative a success. She stated that RTA would endeavour to rid bikers from the risks of crashes through taking part in the events and activities which would run through February 18 with the aim of translating the theme of the initiative into a reality.

“Fatalities of quadbike accidents accounted for 5% of total traffic fatalities in Dubai Emirate as the records show 8 mortalities and 12 serious injury cases involving quadbikes. The Traffic Safety specialists in the Agency are seriously viewing these alarming figures, and we are constantly upgrading our awareness programs targeting quad-bikers, particularly during the winter where the youth increasingly use quadbikes in the desert.

“This initiative couldn’t have come at a better time, and RTA is all set to direct its relevant awareness programs to serve this initiative, besides cooperating with other partners such as the Dubai Police, Islamic Affairs and Charitable Department in Dubai, and Dubai Media Inc.

“Traffic accidents sustained by quadbikes are attributed to the lack of compliance on the part of some bikers with the safety measures they ought to comply with, and the low traffic awareness level; which turns desert tours into serious adventures triggering deplorable and tragic accidents,” added Maitha.

The Director of RTA Traffic Agency concluded: “Throughout this campaign, we will be concentrating on the security and safety of motor-bikers; which require wearing a protective suit, helmet, long boots, cycling gloves, and goggles among others in coordination with our partners at the venue of the events, the Dubai Hobbies Club, Al Awir.”
