ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, will aim to demonstrate how its innovative products and solutions can support the development of urban transportation projects in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
At the International Association of Public Transport’s (UITP) 59th World Congress / Mobility & City Transport Exhibition to be held from April 10-14 2011 in Dubai, ABB’s railway experts will be meeting key decision makers, train manufacturers, network operators, local contractors, and energy utilities from the GCC counties to share the company’s global rail experiences and know-how.
“The GCC’s population growth rates and expected economic growth are among the highest in the world,” said Jean-Luc Favre, head of ABB’s railway business. “ABB is set to increase its market share in the Gulf’s growing rail sector in tandem with the plans drawn up by national transportation bodies to boost economic growth and enhance the population’s quality of life over the coming decades through sustainable mobility.”
ABB has played a key role in a large number of railway and transportation projects worldwide, including the MENA region. ABB power products were selected to electrify the traction and power distribution systems for Istanbul’s newest and longest metro line. ABB’s Substation Control and Monitoring Systems (SCMS) and low-voltage products are working together to deliver reliable power to Red Line stations of Dubai Metro – a driverless metro network that is pegged as the world’s longest fully automated metro system to be completed in one phase. ABB will also provide electrical equipment for the deployment of the first electric rapid transit project (RTP) in the GCC. The system will be installed at King Saud University in Riyadh.
In India, ABB has become the leading contractor providing turnkey power supply solutions for metro rail projects. Since 2002, ABB has implemented turnkey electrification of more than 200 kilometers of both 25kV AC and 750V DC metro railway lines in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. These include traction, receiving and auxiliary substations, overhead electrification/ DC third rail, SCADA systems, integrated building and asset management solutions. These projects feature ABB’s compact gas and air insulated switchgear, 25kV pole-mounted vacuum interrupters and circuit breakers with magnetic actuator mechanisms.
ABB’s stand will feature demonstrations of several cutting-edge technologies, including the display of a BORDLINE® CC400 Compact Converter for light rail vehicles, the most versatile and integrated traction converter for 600 or 750 VDC input voltage in the world, and its new modular traction motor of world-class performance and reliability. ABB can be found at Stand 5A150 in Hall 5.
