Twenty people have been recruited to the brain unit of the Metro with the current daily passenger load of 170,000 expected to double.

The Green Line spans 23km and comprises 16 stations. All stations except for Al Jadaf and Creek will be operational from next month.

The OCC, located at the Metro depot at Al Rashidiya, is equipped with 65 screens to monitor the Red and Green Lines.

Smooth functioning

The centre ensures the smooth functioning of the stations and depot, and detects and rectifies any emergency failures to ensure the efficient and safe running of trains.

Explaining the operations of the OCC, Ramadan Abdullah, director of Rail Operation, Rail Agency, Roads and Transport Authority, said: “The OCC comprises two parts; one dedicated to the Red Line and the other to the Green Line. About 20 fresh employees have been recruited to work on three shifts to track and monitor the Green Line.”

Two giant screens help officials keep a watchful eye on the lines, besides the 37 stand-alone screens for the Red Line and 28 for the Green Line. More info
