SHARJAH: Following a demand from passengers for Sharjah-bound buses from Dubai, to have halts at areas near Al Mamzar or Al Mulla Plaza, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said it would plan for a direct route to Sharjah starting from the same areas.

“We cannot have buses stop there on their way from the Central Business District areas of Al Ghubaibah or Al Sabkha as it would greatly inconvenience passengers,” said the CEO of Public Transport Agency at RTA, Eisa Abdul-Rahman Al Dosari.

“We are studying the issue and opening up a new direct route to Sharjah from an area near Al Mulla Plaza is a possibility,” he added.

He said the most important thing was to keep the inter-city buses moving faster, “otherwise with a lot of stopovers, many passengers would be put off.”

He emphasised creation of new routes as the better alternative, rather than “making frequent and irritating stopovers.”

“I have heard the same issue raised by some Abu Dhabi-Dubai bound passengers who have demanded for a stopover on the highway near Ibn Battuta Mall. We will be studying that issue as well.”
