Dubai: A recent campaign by the traffic authorities found nearly 40 per cent of tyres of the heavy vehicles tested were faulty, officials said, urging the government to implement a new check measure.
Developed and piloted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), implementing the Vehicle Defect Clearing System across the UAE will mean that unsafe vehicles will be allowed back on the road only after they rectify defects.
Out of 100 heavy vehicles tested during a five-day electronic vehicle inspection campaign by the RTA, 37 were found to be in poor condition, Ahmad Behroozian, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency, said.
“This is a very big number and it raises safety concerns, especially because these vehicles travel long distances and carry heavy loads.”
