SHARJAH: With national fervour building up to a crescendo as the nation approaches the D-Day, malls which typify the country’s progress in more ways than one, are getting ready to usher in grand celebrations and inviting residents from every walk of life to join in.

Emirati elegance. From Dec. 1-3, Sharjah City Centre will be hosting cultural dance shows featuring the Ayala and Yola traditional dance. Shows will take place three times a day, and will feature national Emirati songs and instruments.

Furthermore, throughout the celebratory period, children and adults will be treated to vibrant roaming entertainment – providing the perfect photo opportunity for individuals to remember and cherish this historical occasion.

Milestones matter. In commemoration of the UAE’s 40th National Day, Dubai’s Deira City Centre, is revealing a news headline exhibition of the UAE’s most memorable stories from nearly 40 years.

On display at the mall’s Central Stage, this exhibition recognises all aspects of the nation’s life and heritage, highlighting the momentous growth and prosperity of this great nation so many call home.

Additionally, up to Dec.3, those visiting the mall throughout this celebratory occasion can win instant prizes from participating retailers.

Grand greetings. Highlights of the Mall of the Emirates’s 40th UAE National Day festivities include some ‘grand’ elements including a giant electronic board displaying congratulatory greetings from all visitors at the mall.

Dressed in 40th UAE National Day décor, Mall of the Emirates will be adorned with the patriotic colours of the UAE. At the heart of the mall, the Central Galleria will feature a larger-than-life 5m UAE flag, complementing the centerpiece attraction — a giant electronic message board featuring ever-changing inspirational and congratulatory 40th UAE National Day greetings. By simply sending a SMS, shoppers, residents and tourists at Mall of the Emirates will be able to spread their national day wishes in a unique and meaningful way.

Cultural carnival. Meanwhile, Ajman City Centre, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture Youth and Community Development, the Ajman Chamber of Commerce, and the Ajman Police, will be presenting an array of fun-filled activities such as a performance by the armed forces HQ and a musical performance by the National Operetta.

A children’s carnival will also be located within the mall, with cultural activities and exciting competitions courtesy of Ajman Police available for all ages.

The mall has also organised a mini-walkathon where nursery children will march across the mall as they proudly sing national UAE songs.

In addition, those visiting Ajman City Centre from Dec.1 to Dec.3 are invited to come together and indulge in traditional food – all generously provided by the Ajman Chamber of Commerce.

‘Green’ glory. With an aim to instill a sense of national pride amongst students of the community, Mirdif City Centre in Dubai is hosting an inter-school arts project called “My UAE National Awards Day”.

On display, Mirdif City Centre will be showcasing 20 ‘green’ arts sculptures – all made from recyclable materials by students from six schools in the community.

Inspired by the past, present and future heritage of the UAE, these sculptures reflect three themes: native wildlife, national landmarks, traditional or modern forms of transportation.

The 20 sculptures will be on display in the Oasis Walk area, where visitors to the mall will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite creation.

On Dec.3, under the theme ‘My UAE National Day Parade’, over 150 school children will be led by a group of Arabic drummers and costumed performers, marching proudly in celebration of the milestone occasion of the 40th UAE National Day.

The Grand Parade will culminate in the Central Galleria where the awards ceremony for the inter-school arts project will take place, and all participating schools will be recognised for their UAE-inspired sculptures.

Pricey prizes. Al Ain has one more reasons to celebrate this National Day. Al Ain Mall has announced the grand opening of its new expansion on Nov. 29, just ahead of UAE’s 40th National Day, in a ceremony that will see 10 Mercedes Benz won.

To mark the occasion, the Al Ain Mall management has launched “the biggest ever campaign in Al Ain city, offering 10 brand new 2012 model Mercedes Cars as grand prizes every 40 days.”

Phase one of the mall’s two-phase project, is completed and will be opened on Nov.29, 2011.

This will add more than 135 outlets which include an array of international fashion, electronic and café brands, according to the malls’ management.
