Arab Media Group (AMG) is being tipped as the favourite to produce a free sheet newspaper to be distributed at stations along the Dubai Metro, industry magazine Media Week Middle East reported on Sunday.
Industry sources cited by the magazine say AMG is the obvious choice after it was awarded a 30 million-dirham ($8.18 million) advertising contract earlier in the year.
“AMG have got it, it’s in the bag. The RTA just awarded a 30 million-dirham advertising contract. Why would they do that and award the newspaper contract to someone else?” an unnamed media executive was quoted as saying.
AMG Executive Director Mohammed al-Mulla confirmed the company has submitted a proposal and expects a decision “soon”.
An AMG source told Media Week the newspaper would likely to be a tabloid, with dedicated Arabic and English editions. So far the favourite working title is the Link, the source said.
