Traffic chiefs in Dubai have rejected reports that taxi drivers are banned from making multiple stops.

The report, which appeared in a UAE newspaper earlier this week, caused confusion among both cabbies and passengers. The article claimed the ban had been in force for years and was there to stop people sharing a cab.

It said that cabbies would be fined if they were caught making multiple stops. However, on Wednesday the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued a statement to clarify the issue of taxi drop-offs. The RTA’s CEO of public transport, Dr Yousif Al Ali, said cabs can make multiple stops but drivers cannot stop and restart the meter after each drop. More info
