A massive cleaning and sterilization of Dubai streets were carried out in the wee hours of Saturday, March 21, as precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus.

Wearing jumpsuits and protective gears, scores of Dubai municipality workers took to the streets of Dubai. Car parking areas, kerbs and streets were cleaned and sprayed with disinfectants to ensure the safety of residents.

The ‘disinfection mission’ was started at midnight from Al Rigga street in Dubai and continued till early morning. Leading the charge was Eng. Dawood Al Hajiri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, who could be seen giving instructions to municipality workers.

Dubai Municipality on Friday launched a campaign to sterilize roads and public places across Dubai until March 30 to fight the spread of coronavirus. The civic authority said thorough cleaning will be conducted in multiple phases starting with the Deira neighbourhood – Naid, AL Rigga, Muraqqabat, Baniyas , Abu Hail, AL Nahda and other areas.

Authorities have set up a dedicated team to disinfect and sanitised Dubai’s streets and public areas as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19.

The Dubai Media Office on Friday, March 13 tweeted a video of a dedicated team cleaning and disinfecting public places and streets. Places that will undergo thorough cleaning include salons, labour accommodations, educational institutes, shopping malls, fitness centres, laundries, construction companies and all other consumer establishments and public spaces.
