Qatar is on the hunt for architectural subcontractors to deliver 35 planned new metro stations in its capital city – Doha

Qatar Rail has invited architects and building contractors to pre-qualify for the construction of architectural elements on phase one of the £21 billion mass transit scheme.

Dutch outfit UNStudio revealed concept station designs (pictured) for the gargantuan project in September.

The initial 35 stations will be based on triangular base forms and feature vaulted roofs inspired by traditional nomadic tents.

UNStudio’s design guidelines will also apply to around 60 further stations planned for the network’s second phase.

The £8 billion opening stage will be tendered as eight separate design and build contracts each requiring multiple architectural and multi-disciplinary subcontractors.

Architectural works will include the interior fit out of underground, at grade and elevated stations. More info
