Plans for a 20km extension of the Dubai Metro Green Line to Academic City is being considered by transport officials, it was reported Monday.
The project is set to be decided by the end of the year, and is part of a wider review of all projects being undertaken by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the National reports.
If approved, it would serve thousands of students and staff at the education development, which is set to have about 40,000 students by 2015, the paper reports.
“We cannot talk about implementing anything until we finish looking at the master plan, which will consider all the projects along with changes in development. We have to restudy all that,” Abdul Redha al Hassan, the RTA rail planning and development director, told the National.
The projected cost of building such an extension was not revealed in the report.
Testing has begun on the Green Line, which will continue for six months. Once up and running the RTA forecasts it will double the number of metro passengers.
