Operations on the Green Line of Dubai Metro were halted on Monday night due to a fire near the Abu Baker Al Siddique metro station in Deira, which engulfed the area in thick smoke, it was reported.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that the Green Line was closed after the blaze broke out at about 5.30pm local time, according to 7Days newspaper.
It quoted a Dubai Civil Defence spokesman as saying: “At 5:52pm this evening, a call was received regarding a fire in a residential building in Muraqabbat area. The emergency teams have been deployed and they are trying to control the fire. The rescue teams are also evacuating the residents.”
Dubai Police also tweeted: “Salahuddin road opposite Muraqqabat police station is closed in both directions due to a fire in a building. Please be extra cautious.” More info
