DUBAI // The first day of school was met with frustration as traffic was at a standstill on major roads in Dubai.

Many commuters were stuck in traffic for more than an hour, with many taking to social media to vent their frustrations.

“Been sat in this Dubai traffic on Oud Metha road for an hour. I’ve moved maybe 1km. I left home an hour early but I’m still not at work,” tweeted @Nikki_Holder.

“15 minutes to travel 26km to Media City from home and 15 minutes to [go] 1km within Media City to office,” wrote @ArshadZaheer.

School buses and parents rushing to get their children to class on time was the main reason behind most of the delays.

“School rush starts with schools opening up. Mums/dads running late. Has to be a practical alternative,” said @SophiaAhmed.

“Oh no, its back to school traffic,” @MerlinBangera tweeted. “Kids in the buses looking as glum and sleepy as the grown-ups in their cars.” More info
