DUBAI — Fun and festivities will rule at the ‘Eid in Dubai-Eid Al Adha’ celebrations, which begin today, with an array of entertainment activities including international concerts, a family fair and fireworks on the beach.

Eid in Dubai, which is considered the longest Eid celebrations in the region, will bring together families and tourists from different nationalities and cultural backgrounds under the theme “Eid Al Adha unites us in celebration”.  The city will be sporting a festive ambience to celebrate this special occasion with lights, banners, flags and other decorations.

The celebrations, which conclude on October 19, position the emirate as a destination of choice for families and tourists during the Eid Al Adha holidays, and its image as a city of great festivals and events.

Fireworks have always been a main attraction of ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebrations, and it will be no different at this year’s celebrations. A dazzling display of fireworks will illuminate the night skies over the open beach in Jumeirah and Umm Suqueim 2 today, a show that will be held daily at 9pm at the same venue over the next 10 days.

The open beach is also the location of the Beach Family Fair, featuring beach and water-based games and activities for families. Other events on the first day of ‘Eid in Dubai’ are a concert by Italian-born opera singer Alessandro Safina, Arab Idol Tour concert featuring stars of the popular TV talent show, the Vogue Dubai Fashion Experience at The Dubai Mall, and a show by Irish comedian and radio host Jason Byrne.

24-hour malls

Families and tourists can also avail themselves of unbeatable shopping deals  at malls and souqs all over Dubai with the main attraction being  ‘Dubai 24 Hours’, a non-stop shopping initiative at selected malls that was introduced last year following a directive of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aimed at providing the ultimate unforgettable holiday experience for families and tourists, who are expected to be in Dubai during this year’s ‘Eid in Dubai’ celebrations.

The ‘Dubai 24 hours’ initiative will allow families and tourists to enjoy round-the-clock shopping on the first and second day of Eid Al Adha at The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Deira City Centre, Mirdif City Centre, Dubai Festival City Mall, Oasis Centre, Arabian Centre and Lamcy Plaza.

These eight malls will also offer longer shopping hours during the other days of the Eid in Dubai celebrations from 10am to 2am, and dining hours until 3am. Additionally, several other malls including Mercato, Ibn Battuta Mall, BurJuman, Dubai Outlet Mall,  Al Ghurair Centre, Wafi and Times Square Centre will offer extended shopping hours during the  ‘Eid in Dubai” celebrations from 10am till midnight with some of them staying open into the early hours of the morning. –news@khaleejtimes.com   More info
