Dubai: Emiratis have been hired as Dubai Metro inspectors as part of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)’s plan to have 30 per cent Emiratis in Dubai Metro jobs.

“The RTA has taken a keen interest in emiratising Dubai Metro jobs as it is part of the contract that the Metro operator Serco will attain 30 to 50 per cent Emiratisation within the first five years,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA.

He said that more than 100 Emiratis joined Dubai Metro in October and more were hired last month as Metro inspectors.

Penalties

The Emirati inspectors have replaced expatriates because they were facing some resistance from violators while issuing fines.

The inspectors on the trains are responsible for ensuring a smooth and safe journey for all Metro users and for issuing penalties to violators of the Metro rules.

Al Tayer said the number of Emirati employees will increase gradually. Currently, the Metro team consists of more than 3,000 employees.
