Civil defence teams were still working this morning to put out the last remnants of the fire that struck the Downtown Address hotel in Dubai just before the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations.
By 8am, the majority of the fire had been put out, but smoke shrouded the building and flames were still clearly visible from a small section of the 69-storey tower, on the 30th floor.
Around 40 civil defence vehicles were parked outside the luxury hotel. Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard was closed to traffic between Financial Centre Road and Dubai Fountain Street.
Tongues of flame shot skywards from one side of the luxury Address Downtown Dubai hotel and residential block, which stands across a plaza from the 160-storey Burj Khalifa tower where people had gathered for fireworks to mark the New Year. More info
