Downtown Jebel Ali’s Metro station saw a dramatic increase in passengers at rush hour this morning, with hundreds of passengers swapping road for rail in support of Limitless’ Metro Monday initiative.
Among them were 400 people who work at The Galleries at Downtown Jebel Ali, Limitless’ flagship project in Dubai. On an average day, 200 Galleries tenants travel by train.
Bahaa Abouhatab, Project Director at The Galleries, who also took the train today, said, “We’ve had a great response to Metro Monday, which is designed to encourage a long-term change in travel habits by reducing car dependency in Dubai. Many people who used the Metro to reach The Galleries today did so for the first time, and have confirmed their intention to use it more regularly from now on.”
One such traveller is Sharmilee Jennifer, who took the train from Karama to Downtown Jebel Ali this morning. She said, “My journey was easy, cost-effective and clean, and I didn’t need to rely on my husband or friends to give me a lift to work. I fully intend to swap road for rail more regularly from now on.”
